~~~Journal Entry 2000~~~
Wow, today was really nothing. Moved around town a lot just wasting the day away, then went off fishing, but nowhere near as intense as yesterday. I’m memorizing Visalion a bit easier now. I walked just about everywhere making mental notes of where everything was, and then just walked around again.
I walked into a school today, they were more than happy to teach how to fight with knives and swords and some other things for what I thought were decent prices. I tried a quick lesson and learned quite a bit, but I will definitely need to go back and spend more gil to become more proficient. I’m going to go see what I can get to eat before I finish up and get some rest.
Day 6
~~~Journal Entry 0800~~~
I’m sitting at the guild waiting on Mar, She should be here soon. I still don’t have the slightest idea of what’s going on. Lahlee just walked in.
~~~Recorder 0830~~~
The screen is following Mar and Lahlee from Xzander’s point of view.
Xzander>> So where are we going, Mar? Why are you so quiet about it?
Mareeh>> Well, what have you done here besides kill monsters?
Xzander>> I’ve done a few favors for some people.
Mareeh>> Have you found a job?
Xzander>> No, not really. I don’t really want to settle down in one place.
Mareeh>> No of course not, I mean freelance work, crafts and hobbies.
Xzander>> Crafts? Like what exactly?
Mareeh>> Like anything. Sewing, carpentry, or fishing. There’s plenty to choose from. Today I wanted to get you started on one or two, and if we still got some time, I can show you some schools in the area.
Xzander>> Magic Schools? That sounds cool!
Mareeh>> Hehe, all kinds of schools, X. Can I call you X?
Xzander>> ‘Course.
Mareeh>> Well I don’t mean to be nosy, but how much gil do you have?
Xzander>> umm… a little over three thousand?
Mareeh>> Ok, what do you want to learn? Cooking? Black Smithing? Alchemy?
Xzander>> Smithing sounds very helpful.
Mareeh>> Well they’re all very helpful at some point or another. That’s why it’s good to learn as much as possible.
Xzander>> well… let’s stick with one for now.
Mareeh>> Of course, so smithing, right? Let’s get you a hammer.
Xzander>> Ok, where can I get one?
Mareeh>> Normally, crafting guilds carry everything you need, but there is no smiths guild here.
Xzander>> So what do we do? Choose something else?
Mareeh>> We might have to, but don’t give up this early. There’s one place we might find one.
~~~Recording gaps~~~
Mareeh>> This is the Auction house, are you familiar with it?
Xzander>> Nope.
Mareeh>> Well, People put stuff up for a hidden price, then others place bids, and the first one to reach or pass the set price gets the item. Some things are way overpriced, others are cheap, and there are many things that you can’t find in stores.
Xzander>> So maybe we’ll find a hammer still?
Mareeh>> Yeah, maybe.
Xzander>> Well let’s take a look.
Mareeh>> Looks like there is one. Maybe a thousand gil or a little higher.
Xzander>> Ok, it’s for the best in the end, right?
Mareeh nods, and Xzander begins to place bids.
Xzander>> 1500 gil.
Mareeh>> Not bad, could have bought it cheaper if we had a guild nearby, I’m sorry if I forced you.
Xzander>> It’s alright, I made my choice and I’m sticking to it.
~~~End Recording~~~
~~~Journal Entry 1400~~~
Seems that this hammer was well worth the investment already! I took some time to practice with that broken sword and some of my gear repairing plenty of damage. It’s shoddy work, but it’s better than nothing. Maybe I can get really good and make money doing it like Mar told me. Lahlee left earlier but said to meet her on the docks later today, I should probably make my way there now.
The auction house was pretty cool, I bet I can make a lot more money if I can play my cards right. Right now, I can sell the rabbit hides for much more than what stores will give me for them. We’ll see what happens.
~~~Journal Entry 1800~~~
Ahh… now this is relaxing. Lahlee surprised me with a fishing pole and taught me how to fish. We’re still at the docks now, and I’m just writing a bit waiting for a bite. So far we’ve pulled up quite the lot. Maybe I should find some more bait so I can do this every now and then.
~~~Journal Entry 2100~~~
Oh, Wow! The fish sold great on auction! Lahlee and I split the gil in half and got over 6,000
each! I should defiantly take the time to do this again soon. Maybe I can spend the money on my smithing skills since it’s so hard to get materials to work with here. I’m off to get some food and call it a night.

Day 5
~~~Journal Entry 0900~~~
I’m all geared up and ready to head out. I am just going to wander around today since the Guild is not so busy today. I packed some food with me today just in case I find myself too far from town. Let’s start by following the coast for a while, might get lost out there if I just head straight out into the dunes.
~~~Journal Entry 1300~~~
I am still following the coastline. Cleared out the monsters so I can have a break. Now I’m just trying to beat the heat. My sword doesn’t look too good, but it’s the best I could do with the bit of gil that I have. I’ll just have to make more.
~~~Journal Entry 1600~~~
I broke off from the coast and found an oasis. Of all things out here, I snapped my sword in half. I have to fight with my fists now. I’m surviving though, so I’ll make it home alright. By the way, I finally found that damn rock. I’m going to finish the last of my food, drink some water from the river and start heading back.
~~~Journal Entry 2100~~~
Well that wasn’t too bad, I’m getting used to being out for so long. Yet it is nice to be back in town. I took care of the chores of selling the goods and closing the quest for that lousy rock. He gave me a copper ring for it… useless. Well I’ll just hang on to it anyway. At least it fits nicely. This blasted sword, I won’t get any gil for it. I’ll see what I can do with it tomorrow.

Day 4
~~~Journal Entry 1000~~~
Just stopping to make a few notes, got a quest this morning to hunt crabs along the coast, and I still have to find that masons rock. I probably should go back to him and ask for a little more detail on where to locate them.
On a more social topic, I’ve met a Galka for the first time by the name of Gilleth. We spoke for a while, but he said he had some errands to run in town. Perhaps he will return. I met another Mithra shortly after. Her name was Mareeh-Liahgo. It took me a while to pronounce it right, but in the end we agreed on just Mar. She’s a talented mage. I asked her to teach me, but she said that I can only learn at a magic school, and they don’t come cheap. Jeez, there’s so much to do, but you gotta have money to do anything. Maybe these quests will put me back on my feet before I miss tomorrows rent.
~~~Journal Entry 1100~~~
Lahlee just needs a lightning crystal to finish the repairs on the recorder. Hopefully she’ll be done soon. Gil had asked me to meet him outside the gates near the beach. I wonder what he’s up to. I’m going to gear up and find out.
~~~Active Event Recorder~~~
Out in the dunes of Elderine Desert, near the sands of the beach, stands Xzander and Gilleth.
Lahlee>> Hey X! I fixed it!
Xzander>> Oh, Hey Lahlee, great timing. Maybe you can tell Gil that he’s insane.
Gilleth starts to laugh heartily.
Lahlee>> Why’s that?
Gilleth>> I just offered a friendly competition.
Xzander>> friendly, yes. Yet you will obviously win! Look at you, you’re well more experienced than I am. Better equipped to kill. There is no way I can possibly even come close to matching you.
Lahlee>> Xzanderrr, you should not doubt yourrrself.
Gilleth>> Xzander, there is more to it than just what we carry with us. It is what is inside of us that which makes us great. Not even the sharpest sword can help someone that doesn’t know how to handle one.
Xzander>> What do you mean?
Gilleth>> Why don’t I just show you. Have you fought these crabs before?
Xzander>> No, not really.
Gilleth>> They are not that tough or fast, just very violent. How much did the quest ask for?
Xzander>> At least 20.
Gilleth>> Then the first to pass ten will win. Just move fast and kill just.
Xzander>> If you say so…
Lahlee>> I’m surrre you can do it, X. Just try your best.
Xzander grins at Lahlee.
Xzander>> I don’t like trying. *draws sword* I just do it. Let’s go, Gil.
Xzander runs off to his first crab and crashes his sword down on it by surprise. He slices it again to finish it off, and moves on to number 2.
~~~Recording Stopped~~~
~~~Active Event Recorder~~~
Xzander>>Still think that it wasn’t fair, Gil.
Gilleth laughs while Xzander grins.
Gilleth>> Yes, I may be more used to it than you are, but it was still pretty close, 11 to 9 is not something to be ashamed of.
The screen shows the Gilleth and Xzander walking next to eachother. Xzander is breathing a bit heavy while they are all walking back to Visalion.
Lahlee>> I think you did great, Xzan.
Gilleth>> You did have me worried for a moment there.
Xzander>> Maybe, but then you just blasted the last 2 away, cheater.
Lahlee and Gilleth burst out laughing again.
Gilleth>> It is not cheating if I simply use the abilities that I have developed. Maybe I can teach you sometime. For now, take this and let us call it a draw.
Gilleth tosses Xzander a money pouch.
Gilleth>> It’s not much, but maybe you can do something useful with it.
~~~Recording Stopped~~~
~~~Journal Entry 2000~~~
I’m still a little bummed out about losing to Gil, but the 2,000 he gave me was a nice gesture. It sure picks me up! Anyway, Mareeh wants me to meet up with her at the Guild the day after tomorrow. I guess I’ll just mess around tomorrow and try to find something to do. Maybe practice some more with this rusty stick I call a sword. :/
~Active Event Recorder~
Xzander>> Hello?
The screen turns violently onto Xzander’s face upside down.
Xzander>> I think it’s working.
Female Stranger>> Herrre, lemme see it again.
The screen shakes around.
Female Stranger>> Rrrrr… it’s a bit old, but it worrrks fine, you just have to hold it.
Someone’s belly is blocking the view. Lots of rustling is heard.
Female Stranger>> Try pinnin’ it onto yourrrself. Let’s see herrre…
Xzander>> Ow! Easy.
Female Stranger>> Oh quit yourrr whining.
The screen stabilizes and shows the female stranger who resembles a feline with ears and a tail. Her dyed blue hair was the second aspect you would notice.
Xzander>> Ok I think we’re good. Now how do you turn it off?
Mithra>> Right here.
~~~Recording Ended~~~
~~~Journal Entry 0900~~~
I probably caught that recording down in my journal, this thing is pretty neat. This Elven guy just came up to me when I finished writing yesterday and presented me with this recorder. It’s just a little magic and it records straight into my journal. He also told me that if I do like it, I should purchase a more recent model, one that floats around me and records on its own. That just sounds cool. 60000 gil though… not anytime soon I guess.
Anyway, this cute Mithra taught me how to use the recorder. Her name is Lahlee-Mihngola. She’s an adventurer too. I’m just waiting on her now, she’s going to show me around and help me settle in a bit more.
~~~Active Event Recorder~~~
The screen follows Lahlee into the guild. Lots of adventurers of all sizes are seen standing outside and inside the guild.
Male Hume bartender>> Mornin’ Lahlee, how are ya?
Lahlee>> Morrrnin’ Ron, I’m well. How is business?
Ron>> Ehh… can’t complain. Who’s this you got followin’ ya?
Xzander>> I’m Xzander.
Lahlee>> He’s new herrre, Ron. Any chance on teaching him the rrropes?
Ron>> Sure! Would you like a drink?
Xzander>> Sounds goo…

~~~Journal Entry 1600~~~
So my recorder exploded on me…. Not fun. Lahlee is trying to fix it again but it might take some time. I should take this time to recap on what I’ve learned from Ron the bartender. Ron is also the guild owner. It seems that people come to him and pay to put up requests. Adventurers then stop by and choose requests as they deem plausible to their abilities. It can be anything from gathering items, monster slaying, errand runs, or even repairing or making items. Sometimes even adventurers post something in the guild. Anyway, Ron’s workers act as the middle man the entire time. When the person brings back what was requested or finishes the task that was asked, Ron’s boys will swap out for the reward. Sometimes it takes a while to receive though. I’m going to hang around for a while and try to make some friends here.
~~~Journal Entry 1900~~~
Crystals are quite important around here. Lots are always on demand. It seems like they are used for just about everything! Lahlee told me that if I find any, make sure that I hang on to them rather than selling them first chance I get. Its dark out so I’m debating whether I should go out and hunt some more, or just call it a day.
~~~Journal Entry 2100~~~
I’m back at the inn. No hunting tonight. I visited the guild to try to find something quick to do, instead I ended up talking to the people there. I learned about something called an Itemizer. Apparently it makes it very easy to carry everything by storing it inside this little disk no bigger than the palm of my hand. I should invest in one. I can see it making my travels a whole lot simpler. Until tomorrow…
Day 2
I’m just sitting on the city walls enjoying the sun and taking a break. This morning was packed with events. I started off by going off to the bazaars out in the plaza. I found me a good sack and some more decent looking clothes. I’m down to just a bit over a hundred gil though. While scoping out the stands I first ran into this other adventurer. He was a taller blonde guy that just smiled and nodded at me in apology. The second wasn’t so kind. He actually tried to mug me! Lucky for me that I caught him before he had a chance to run off. He lashed out violently at me and I ended up confronting him right there in the middle of town. The brawl was short and after a few hits, he ran off. I just dusted myself off and moved along my business before any guards would notice. In all honesty, I believed that he could have bested me, maybe I need to practice some self defense.
For now, I’m just dealing with some errands I found from locals. This one stonemason asked me to find him some specific rocks. A rookie tanner was shouting around for some rabbit hides, offering a good price. I told him I was more than happy to go find some for him. After I get something to drink, I’ll head back out and find me some more sand hares.
~~~
It’s only a few hours before sunset and here I am again on the walls. I guess I like being alone in the fresh air. I got two dozen rabbit hides and a good handful of beetle shell pieces. I got a good offer on the shell pieces for 500 gil. I’m still looking out over the plaza to find that guy asking for hides. Maybe I’ll just go get something to eat.
~~~
Well, I have a full stomach, and found the sap. I got me a sweet reward of 1,200 gil. After paying for food and lodge, I’m down to 1,663 gil. I’m going to shop around for some gear tonight before hitting the bar.
~~~
With my sack filled with some old, cheap gear, and a tankard next to me, I write down the last entry for today. I found this interesting place called a guild. Good place to make some cash. People submit requests, and the guild members pick up whatever they need. I’m going to figure out how to become a member tomorrow. For now, I’m winding down.

People submit requests, and the guild members pick up whatever they need. I’m going to figure out how to become a member tomorrow. For now, I’m winding down.
Day 1
Under the burning sun, in the docks of Visalion, I took my first step off the boat from the outlands and into Ro’soah. I have decided to become an adventurer and make a name for myself. I want to be the best there is, but to get there I will need to work harder than I ever have before. With so little gil in my pouch and just the rags of clothes on my back, I presume harsh times ahead.
~~~
I’ve found a place to stay. It seems to have lots of regulars and plenty of rooms. However at 60 gil a night, I’m not so sure if I will last long out here, I have to find some more money or else I’ll be on the streets again before long. There are a few folks down at the bar; perhaps they know something that may help me out. If anything perhaps I can work here if possible.
~~~
I’m sitting on a rock out in the Eldern deserts outside the city right now. The Sun will be setting soon. I’ve been fighting with my bare hands for a while now. I can feel like I’m progressing a little bit. I managed to scavenge some things to sell from the desert wildlife. Maybe I can get some money in town to get some gear or some useful medicines. For now I’ll just carry my findings back to Visalion.

Yes! 225 Gil for the rabbit hides and beetle parts. I’m back at the Inn now, enjoying a little victory toast to myself. The food here is not bad at all, no sweets though. I plan to buy something to carry in more than I hauled in today and some gear to protect myself with. Tomorrow, I’m shooting to make at least 3,000 gil so I won’t have to worry so much for a while. For now, I will retire.
~~~
I can’t fall asleep, so I’m just putting in a little more into today’s entry. The room is a little dull with little furniture and rough bedding made of straw. I still think that day to day life will be a bit rough. Well my candle is almost out so best if I try to get some rest for tomorrow. It’ll be a long day most likely.
